DENTAL BRIDGES

Dental bridges can be used to replace missing teeth and are permanently bonded to the teeth adjacent to the gap. Dental bridges are fixed in place with dental cement and are an alternative method to dental implant to replace absent teeth. These are usually made of porcelain bonded to precious metal. There are also new bridges made entirely of a special type of strong porcelain. Bridges can improve the way you look, chew, bite, and speak.

DENTAL CROWNS

Dental crowns are a covering that is bonded over your natural tooth. They are used in heavily filled or broken teeth to restore aesthetics and function. Ideal for restoring broken or weakened teeth as a result of large fillings, they can also be used to hold a bridge or denture in place, protect and cover root-filled teeth, and also to improve the appearance of your teeth. Crowns can be made from a variety of materials and some of the most popular types of crowns are porcelain crowns, ceramic crowns, and gold alloy crowns.

Cerec – The Single Visit Ceramic Restorative System

With Cerec, you can be in and out in a single visit with a permanent, all ceramic crown, onlay, or veneer. This means fewer injections, less drilling, and less time out of your busy schedule.

DENTAL IMPLANTS

An implant is a titanium screw that can replace the root of a tooth that has failed. Just like a tooth root, it is placed in the jawbone, and the crown is fitted to give a very natural look.

Implants have been in used in dentistry for a number of years, and have been found to be a safe and reliable way of replacing missing tooth. If properly looked after, dental implants can last a number of years.

Working in conjunction with an implant specialist, we can restore missing teeth or improve the fit and feel of dentures. Dental implants are reliable and well-established treatments that helps replace missing teeth. Like our natural teeth, dental implants can last for as long as you take good care of them

Benefits of Dental Implants

- Help You Eat Comfortably and Unrestricted

- Long-Term Solution - Enjoy Life without Worrying about Teeth

During your initial visit, we will assess whether dental implants are suitable for you, and if they are, we will discuss thoroughly what it involves, how much it will cost, and how long your treatment will take.

If dental implants are not suitable, we will discuss alternative options with you to replace your missing tooth.

DENTAL VENEERS

A dental veneer is a thin covering of porcelain placed over the tooth to achieve an improvement in shape, shade, or function of your tooth. Veneers are made to look natural against your other teeth and are often used to repair chipped teeth or to close small gaps, where braces would be unsuitable. Veneers can be a less damaging way to repair small cracks and chips than crowns, which require large parts of the tooth to be removed but will give better results than a composite filling, which do not provide a strong enough restoration for chipped corners.

Veneer treatments take on average two visits to complete. The first visit is to prepare the tooth for the veneer and match the shade and the second visit is to fit it using a special adhesive, ensuring that you are happy with the colour and shape of your teeth. Once fitted, some minor adjustments may be needed to ensure the veneer fits perfectly within your bite, but the dentist may ask you to wait a week before these adjustments are made. Due to the delicate nature of veneers they are likely to chip or break, but when this happens the dentist can repair the chip or where necessary fit a new one. Veneers are also long-lasting treatments and a very cost-effective way of improving your smile. As with all restoration, veneers need to be taken care of to ensure they last longer.

Pomfret & Farrell Dental will assess your teeth to see if veneers are suitable, and will discuss and show you the right shade of the veneers to be used. Well experienced in placing veneers, we have had many years of experience in this type of treatment.

TEETH WHITENING

Teeth naturally darken with age. However, they may be restored to their natural colour by whitening them. We assess all patients first to see if teeth whitening is suitable for them, and if found to be the case, we then would recommend this treatment. Teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments, and can dramatically improve both your smile and your appearance.

At-home teeth whitening involves taking impressions and making moulds of your teeth to create the whitening trays. These are then worn at home, normally at night, for a period of 2-3 weeks. This allows you to fit the whitening around your own schedule. The darker your teeth, the longer your teeth will take to get lighter, but your dentist will be able to advise you on the expected time frame.

Sensitivity of teeth is the most common side-effect of teeth whitening. This usually occurs around the necks of the teeth where the gums have receded. If you are experiencing any sensitivity you should stop bleaching your teeth for a few days. It is advisable when whitening your teeth to use a sensitive toothpaste to help protect your teeth and reduce any discomfort. The tooth whitening gel also has an indirect effect on the gums in helping them to heal and improving the health of the gums. This is how the technique was invented, as it was first used to heal gum irritation during orthodontic treatment. Your smile will appear much brighter following the whitening and this can help to improve confidence and self-esteem. The effects of tooth whitening should last for up to 3 years, but will be dependent on your diet and whether you smoke. Remember, tooth whitening should be carried out by a registered dental professional. For more details please go to the GDC website www.gdc-uk.org.

TEETH STRAIGHTENING

Treatments have developed a long way since the routine use of metal braces to straighten crowded or rotated teeth. We can now offer our patients several different ways to achieve straight teeth depending on your budget, time frame, and severity of your dental crowding.

Inman Aligner

Inman Aligners are an alternative to clear aligner treatment for simple orthodontic cases that require movements of the front teeth only. This removable appliance achieves complete movement in about six to eight weeks in some cases; however, it is not suitable for all and it's best to seek advice through an orthodontic consultation before choosing the treatment for your problem.

The Inman Aligner is the perfect solution for crowding or protrusion of the front teeth. It is fast, safe, and great value compared to other systems. With the patented Inman Aligner, your front teeth can be gently guided to an ideal position in a matter of weeks. Most cases complete in 6-16 weeks and because it's removable, you can take it out to fit with your lifestyle.

Clear Aligners

Clear aligners are a series of clear positioners that can be offered as an alternative to fixed braces for most people. Each positioner is designed to fit over the teeth and gently guide them into the desired position. If you are interested in discovering if these treatments are suitable for you, please call us at the surgery to make an appointment.

Six Month Smiles®

Six Month Smiles® short term orthodontic treatment is a modern twist on tried-and-true orthodontics. There is little debate within the orthodontic community that braces are the most widely used and most effective method to give patients straight, healthy teeth and a beautiful smile. Six Month Smiles has taken the best aspects of braces and modified the treatment and materials to give adults a common-sense, cosmetic solution that fits your lifestyle.

- Average treatment times of only six months

- Six Month Smiles Lucid-Lok® clear brackets and tooth-coloured wires are barely visible

- Use of braces has shown to provide the most conservative and predictable final result

- Six Month Smiles Patient Tray Kits™ ensure that your appointments are fast and comfortable

- Low forces and short overall orthodontic treatment times increase comfort, safety, and hygiene

- Six Month Smiles is typically less expensive than traditional braces, aligner therapy, or veneers

FACIAL AESTHETICS

Facial aesthetic treatments offer a non-surgical way to reduce the signs of facial ageing. With many years’ experience, all our team adhere to the latest guidance and are highly trained to provide you with the best treatment to meet your needs. .

Wrinkle reduction treatment is used to prevent and reduce lines and wrinkles which appear as frown lines between the eyes, forehead lines and crows’ feet. Treatment will not be effective on wrinkles present when you face is at rest only those that appear when you smile or frown etc. All treatment is designed to give the most natural possible results. The muscles are relaxed, but you will still be able to frown, smile, or look surprised.

Prior to any treatment you will need to attend for a consultation so that our experienced team can determine the best treatment plan to meet your needs. Anyone can benefit from wrinkle reduction treatment, with treatment helping to improve frown lines, crows’ feet, gummy smiles and even underarm sweating. Treatment only takes a short time to perform and any discomfort should be minimal and short lived. The effects of treatment should begin to appear within 48-72 hours, although the full effects may not be visible for up to 14 days. Results would normally be expected to last for around 3-4 months before you will require retreatment.

DERMAL FILLERS

Dermal fillers are non-surgical cosmetic treatments used to fill or replace the lost volume in static wrinkles, lines, and folds that appear at rest, rather than those that appear during facial expression. Unlike anti-wrinkle injections, they do not affect facial muscle contraction. Wrinkles due to facial expression are best treated with anti-wrinkle injections.

As skin ages, both naturally and because of factors such as smoking, sun damage, and poor diet, we lose collagen, fat, and other natural moisturising substances from our skin. These can be thought of as the natural scaffolding that keeps our skin looking young and firm. As these are depleted, our skin becomes thinner and lines, wrinkles, and folds develop. Facial volume loss is one of the key factors in the ageing process, and dermal fillers can help to replenish this lost volume and rejuvenate the face. Dermal fillers can also be used to enhance, define, or enlarge lips, and to shape and volumize the face by injection into cheeks, chins, and nose.

Treatment usually involves the application of local anaesthetic cream to the treated area or a nerve block similar to a dental injection. The dermal filler is then comfortably injected into the treated area to fill out the line, wrinkle, or fold. Some fillers contain an anaesthetic in them to help with any discomfort, if a nerve block has not been administered. Treatment with dermal fillers sometimes does take more than one session to get the best results. The first treatment lays the foundation for the subsequent treatments, and future treatments allow for any adjustments to be made.

CEREC

At Pomfret & Farrell Dental, we have a CEREC machine in each dental surgery which enables our dentists to take optical impressions of your teeth to create a 3D image on the computer. Using the sophisticated CEREC software, we can then design the new tooth which is then milled on site from ceramic blocks chosen to match the colour of your teeth.

CEREC is the world's only system for the fabrication of all ceramic dental restorations in one surgery visit. With CEREC, you can be in and out in a single visit with a permanent, all ceramic crown, inlay, or veneer! For you, the patient, this means fewer injections, less drilling, no messy impressions and less time out of your hectic schedule.
